Griphus is a standalone graphical application designed to assist researchers in the rapid composition and experimentation with multi panel scientific figures. The software was developed primarily for zoological taxonomy, where composite plates remain a central component of scientific illustration.
Images can be loaded and automatically organized into a multi panel composition, with optional numbering, layout rotation, and other operations that facilitate exploration of alternative figure arrangements. Griphus also supports automatic generation of draft figure legends, including scale bar descriptions.
The software has been developed and refined for more than fifteen years and has been used extensively in the preparation of taxonomic illustrations. A manuscript describing the software and its operational principles has been submitted for publication.
